Why hoof boot sizes differ between brands
Hoof boot sizes are not standardised, so a size 1 in one brand can be nothing like a size 1 in another.
Each brand has its own system
Hoof boot makers each build their own sizing charts around their own shell shapes. Easyboot Gloves size to a precise per-hoof fit and need accurate millimetre figures. Scoot Boots size from a width and length grid. Cavallo use whole-number sizes and are known to run large and round.
Because the charts are built differently, matching a number across brands does not work. You have to take your width and length back to each brand's own chart.
Shape is as important as size
Two hooves with the same width and length can still need different brands if their shape differs. A round hoof suits a rounder shell, while a longer, more oval hoof suits a shell cut for that ratio.
The relationship between length and width, sometimes called the A to W ratio, is what tells you whether a hoof is round or oval, and each brand's shell favours a particular range of that ratio.
A cross-brand example
This is why a horse can be one size in Scoot Boots and a different number in a Cavallo or an Easyboot, even on the same hoof. The numbers are internal to each brand.
When you move a horse from one brand to another, treat it as a fresh fitting: take current measurements after a trim and read them against the new brand's chart rather than assuming the old size carries over.

How to size across brands
Start from accurate width and length taken after a fresh trim, then apply each brand's own chart and rounding rule. Note whether the brand sizes on the larger figure, and whether it runs large or snug.
